Gully Gazette – Week 1
Senior Men’s Round 1 – April 7
Para Hills United 1 – Tea Tree Gully City 0
The excitement of round 1 arrived, unfortunately we left the fireworks at home.
We travelled to Para Hills to take on a club playing their first league game in the Sunday Premier Division. The challenge was set before kick-off, knowing they would want to get off to life in Div 1 with a positive performance.
We started the game well, creating some early pressure and opportunities, however were not clinical enough in front of goal to take an early lead. Credit to PHU, this allowed them to grow into the game and get a foothold in the proceedings. We went into the break at 0-0, with both defences dominating the half, with minimal chances created at both ends.
The second half started like the first, with us coming out generating early pressure, but not creating any scoreboard pressure. The half ebbed and flowed for both teams, with PHU looking strong on the counterattack and our defence holding firm. As the game reached its final stages, we lost Hayden Walters for a second bookable offence, reducing us to 10 men, and from the resulting freekick PHU scored a header to go 1 nil up. With 5 minutes to play, we stepped up a gear, however PHU stuck strong defensively and earned a well-deserved 1 nil win.
On reflection, it wasn’t the performance to start the season we were after, so we now need to put this game to bed, move on quickly, learn from our performance, and time to stand up with a positive response next week at Modbury SC.

Senior Women’s Round 3 – April 7
TTGCSC 5 – Uni SA 2
TTG Senior Women’s Division 2 side bounced back this week with a strong performance against UNI SA at Tilley Reserve. After a slow start, the midfield led by Brie and with strong play from Justine, took the upper hand and excellent short connection play assisted Pritch to slot 3 first half goals of her 4 in total.
The defence, led by the dynamic duo at the back, Dani and Tamika, had a number of good attacks against them with the aid of a strong breeze, however Uni were unable to penetrate.
The second half saw a number of players rotated off the bench to rest some sore spots. The match ended 5-2, with Uni SA never giving in and deserving to hit the scoresheet.
We now prepare for FK Beograd on Friday night again at Tilley Reserve.

Junior Update – April 5/6
Juniors & Colts
An unprecedented 38 Gully Junior teams took to the pitches all over Adelaide in Round 1 this season, and Tilley Reserve played host to a record 16 home games! We are so truly happy to be able to facilitate so many games for such a large number of local kids, and it is worth noting that this cannot happen without a lot of hard work by a lot of wonderful volunteers!
To the coaches, team managers, ground marshalls, referees and assistants, helpers, canteen workers, BBQ chefs, committee members, parents, family and friends… On behalf of all our future champions, thank you to all of you. Your tireless support makes it possible, and without you all, there would be no games.
Thank you again; we appreciate your help!
