Gully Gazette – Week 3 Recap
Senior Men’s Round 3 – April 27
Tea Tree Gully City 2 – Savoy 3
A Grade
Jacob Willams x 2 Goals
The excitement of our first home game at the new Tiley Reserve complex arrived, with Port Pirie making the long trip. The challenge was set before kick-off, knowing this was an opportunity to turn the corner after our disappointing start to the season.
We started the game nervously, allowing Savoy to create 1 or 2 early opportunities, however we stood strong and rode the early pressure. Credit to the group, we grew into the game and started to get a foothold in the proceedings and create some opportunities ourselves.
Around 30mins in, a silly mistake from us when playing out from the back allowed Savoy to take a 1 nil lead. On the stroke of half time, we had another lapse of concentration in the defensive half, gifting Savoy a 2 nil lead.
The second half started with us coming out generating early pressure, and creating several chances, however not any scoreboard pressure. The half ebbed and flowed for both teams, until 60 minutes in, Savoy earnt and converted a corner with a nice header for a 3 nil lead.
Credit to the boys, we didn’t cave in, and on 65 minutes, Greeny was brought down in the area, with Willo converting from the spot to make it 1-3.
From there on in, it was one way traffic. We created several chances from open play, however we were not able to find the back of the net. As the game reached its final stages, Greeny once again got brought down in the area, and Willo stepped up to make it 2-3.
With 5 minutes to play we stepped up a further gear, created another glorious opportunity to bring the game level, however Savoy stuck strong defensively, and earnt a well-deserved win.
On reflection, it wasn’t the result we were craving, however credit to the lads for showing the hunger, passion, and the want to win the football game; it just wasn’t our day with some individual errors, and a bad outing in front of goals.
We now need to put this game to bed, move on quickly, learn from our performance, and stand up with a positive response next week with a derby game away at Para Hills East.
To the C2, C, and Reserves coaches & players, congratulations on your results – Well done!
Go the Gully!

Senior Women’s Round 5 – April 27
Women’s Community Cup (Div 1,2,3)
TTGCSC (Div 2) 1 – Bosa 3 (Div 1)
Our Division 2 Women’s team played away against Division 1 Bosa in the Division 1/2/3 Cup.
Our TTG team dominated the first half taking the lead late in the half after a great cross from Sarah and a sweet strike from Kat. Bosa then hit back just before the break. The second half saw both teams going at it with everything they had in a tightly contested half without a further score, so extra time was the result.
We unfortunately had to bench our best on field Liza after a head knock early in the 1st half of extra time. This gave Bosa their chance to strike late in the first half and we then had to go into an all-out attack to try to equalise but could not find the back of the net. Not the result we wanted but the club should be extremely proud of the effort.
The girls certainly lived up to the words on our match board of – “Be Hard To Play Against”.
We now prepare for our game against Flinders United Sunday.

Junior & Colts – April 26/27
After a 2 week break, the Gully Juniors were back at it on the weekend, with 15 Home Games at Tilley Reserve, and 23 Away Games, and Coaches were well prepared to maximise the opportunity for further player development, and team play.
Once again, we are thrilled to be providing an opportunity for such a large number of local kids to play soccer each week, and I want to acknowledge the mountain of hard work put in by so many wonderful volunteers!
To the coaches, team managers, ground marshall’s, referee’s and assistants, helpers, canteen workers, bbq chef’s, sponsors, committee members, parents, family & friends, and the City of Tea Tree Gully… On behalf of all our future champions, thank you to all of you.
Your tireless support makes it possible, and without you all, there would be no games.
Thank you again; We appreciate your help!
